ABB's sales team faced the challenge of transporting large automation cabinets full of equipment to demonstrate Select I/O at global trade shows and events. To simplify transportation and enhance the ability to present the benefits of Select I/O, they wanted a digital presentation solution as a replacement for the physical cabinets.
We created an interactive "Virtual Cabinet" with high-resolution 3D animations of the actual cabinet where Select I/O is installed. By designing the animation in a portrait format, so it could be displayed on a touch screen rotated 90 degrees, we were able to visualize the automation cabinet in the correct format with highly detailed 3D graphics. The Virtual Cabinet has become a powerful digital sales tool that successfully supports ABB's sales team at trade shows and events.
With its incredibly detailed and high-resolution 3D graphics, the Virtual Cabinet is a valuable replacement for having a physical automation cabinet at trade shows for ABB. The 3D animations also provide the opportunity to showcase complex processes that would be difficult to demonstrate with just the physical product.
After the success of the Virtual Cabinet at trade shows, ABB wanted the ability to use the solution in other contexts, both on smaller screens and publicly on the web. Therefore, we developed a web application that reuses the same content, but in a customized format with enhanced information.
